HJ's British Hairdressing Awards: The Book!

HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards celebrates its 30th anniversary this year – and to honour the hair heroes who’ve won over the last three decades, we have put together a special souvenir coffee-table book.

The hard-back, 200-page book features images from all the British Hairdresser of the Year winners over the years – from Trevor Sorbie’s winning images in 1995 to the current winner Akin Konizi. Also see collections from a selection of Hall of Fame winners, who clinched their category three times.

Never before have so many breath-taking, beautiful, iconic and classic images been seen in one place – until now.

HJ editor Ruth Hunsley, who wrote the book, spent the last year researching and collating collections. She says: “British hairdressers have constantly pushed the boundaries and created inspiring images – from the Flame and Wedge by Trevor Sorbie to the Five Point Cut by Vidal Sassoon, British hairdressers have always set trends and created techniques that the world has adopted.”

HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards, which has been sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional from the beginning, was created to recognise these amazing stylists and the work they create. Some of the greatest hairdressers of our time have been recognised for their work in avant garde, afro, commercial, colour and cutting.

While it started with just seven categories, the British Hairdressing Awards has grown to be the Oscars of the hairdressing industry, envied and imitated around the world. Now there are 16 categories – nine regional and six specialist as well as the ultimate accolade of British Hairdresser of the Year. Each year, hairdressers across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland battle it out to clinch the titles.

“We live in a world where images are created all the time and we are bombarded with crazy, commercial and colourful hair,” says Ruth. “Our 30th anniversary souvenir coffee table book is a must for all hairdressers who want to see some of the most inspirational images ever created brought together in one place. As well as being inspirational it is a great reference for those who want to see the evolution of trends, techniques, fashion and hair photography.”

To pre-order your own copy of the book, which costs £39.95 plus postage and packaging, visit www.hji.co.uk/events/british-hairdressing-awards/book
